Film vs Digital Wedding Photography

You may be wondering: "Should I choose a film photographer or a digital photographer?" But- you actually do not have to choose! Working with me means that you will have the option to add film photography to any session or wedding! My galleries contain both the nostalgic feel of analog film AND the reliability of digital photography. I work to provide a blend of both! Capturing 35mm film on a wedding day creates an obligation to slow down, be more intentional, and more purposeful with any guidance I provide. Meanwhile, digital photography is quick, high resolution, and trustworthy for portraits. It works perfectly for moments that flash by in an instant- like a first look or the moment you kiss your brand new spouse for the first time!

How does film wedding photography work?

The best way to explain how film wedding photography works is to explain the planning behind it. Before each wedding, I load 15 rolls of film into my camera bag. Then, when I arrive at your venue, I will load my two separate camera bodies each with one roll, prioritizing low ISO for bright daytime light. Using a light meter, I carefully begin capturing details of your venue. Throughout the day, I will search for slow moving special moments and continously return rolls back to their canisters for safe keeping and re-load my cameras. As a true-to-color digital and film photographer, I ensure my aperture is as low as it can be and then adjust my shutter speed to properly expose the image. My goal with film wedding photography is that the images are beautifully composed and authentic to how the day felt.
