Why Elope?

Eloping in Utah allows couples to have an intimate and private ceremony surrounded by the beauty of nature. It's a perfect choice for those who want to exchange vows without the pressure of a large, traditional wedding.  Eloping often involves less coordination compared to a traditional wedding. This can be appealing to couples who want a simpler, intimate, stress-free celebration.

Utah's natural beauty provides a gorgeous setting that does not require (but can definitely be elevated with) elaborate decorations. For that reason, an Elopement can be a cost-effective option compared to a traditional wedding.

A Utah Elopement can create a unique and unforgettable wedding experience. Whether it's a sunrise ceremony in a desert landscape or a sunset ceremony in a mountain setting, it's sure to be a memorable event. You can exchange vows on a mountaintop, by a waterfall, or in a slot canyon, creating a one-of-a-kind experience.

WHERE TO START

your marriage license

Luckily for you, Utah has relatively straightforward marriage laws and regulations, making it extremely accessible for couples to obtain marriage licenses. The process is typically quick and uncomplicated. Most people apply online and after submitting, there are zero waiting periods. However, you must use your license within 32 days from the date it was issued. What I personally love about Utah Elopements is that marriage licenses obtained in any county are usable in the entire state of Utah- not just that county! One of the reasons people choose to elope is because they want their ceremony to be very intimate and have a small number of people. In Utah, the requirement is that you have an officiant, two witnesses, and the two of you! As long as you have your four crucial people by your side, you can keep it as private as you would like. (I would be happy to be a witness if that is something you'd like!)

the role that weather plays

Utah weather can be so temperamental and while planning your dream elopement this might stress you out a little bit. Rest assured, your special day WILL go well as long as you keep the general stats in mind and have a backup plan. My recommendation is that you pick a location and either embrace whatever happens on the day or be flexible on the start time of your event! Another great plan is to have a tent or yurt on standby for less than desirable weather.

The climate in Utah can be easily broken down into three different regions: THE PLAIN DESERT REGION, THE RED DESERT, &THE WASATCH REGION.

THE PLAIN DESERT

The best time for an elopement in this region is from late March to early November. Rain in this region is rare but winds can have high speeds and will pick up in the fall! The plain desert has the least variety in its climate over the year and for that reason, I can safely recommend you visit during these nine months out of the twelve! This region surrounds the Wasatch Region on both the east and west side of the state.

THE RED DESERT

The red desert region of Utah is found in the southernmost part of the state and stretches from Saint George all the way to Moab. (But does not include Bryce Canyon or the Coral Pink Sand Dunes) In the west red desert region, you will want to plan your elopement from late October to late April.

However, on the east side, you will want to visit from mid March to late May and avoid the hot dry summer months. Mid September through the end of October will again be much more tolerable.

THE WASATCH REGION

The weather will be comfortable from mid April to October, with July and August being the hottest months of the year. The majority of Utah’s precipitation occurs in the wasatch region of the state. April and May are the wettest months on average, with around 2.5 inches per month. If rain on your wedding day scares you, my recommendation would be to head west! This region is found just east of interstate 15 and stretches from Logan all the way to Bryce Canyon.

accessibility

Depending on the vendors you'd like, you'll need to make sure you understand how accessible your elopement spot is by car or walking. You should consider how the person with the lowest level of mobility will arrive or perform their jobs. As you hire vendors, search for people that have experience with elopements or intimate weddings and that you will trust to give you advice. My couples know they can count on me to point them in the right direction. Some of the locations in the national parks (especially Zion) will only be accessible to folks who are active and can carry their gear/ supplies on their person.

permits and the rest of the legal stuff

Most national parks in Utah (and some small state parks) will require a special use permit for wedding ceremonies, even small elopements. The permit allows you to use the park for your wedding and protects the parks so that you and others can enjoy it forever! In my experience, there is a fee associated with obtaining the permit and your vendors might need permits as well. Each permit will vary depending on the size of your event and the location you choose. It's a good idea to reserve these in advance because these locations can be very popular! For example, I obtain annual passes to photograph weddings in Moab and will apply for permits for one-time events in other parks. These cost anywhere from $50-$300 dollars. I know as you are planning your Utah elopement, everything can get overwhelming, so I complete of all the necessary photography permits for your special event.

everything you didn't think about...

Make sure to pack your wedding attire along with whatever else you like and might need! (Walking Shoes/ Hiking boots & a Warm Coat are a must) Feel free to bring accessories or your favorite jewelry and if you ever need recommendations, I'm your girl. Remember you can back a bag with your formal clothing when we arrive, if the location requires vigorous hiking.

I've got the umbrellas! I have two clear umbrellas along with me for every wedding day or elopement. If you have a bigger party, you may want to purchase a few for your party in case of rain or snow!

Chat with me so we can organize your timeline and we can plan out the best time to start your elopement ceremony. I'll suggest the best lighting for your photos and help you to avoid feeling rushed.

Look into the restroom situation!! I know it is silly but you have to think practically to fully enjoy every moment of your day. The most common suggestion (from the elopement planners I've worked with) is at least one restroom for every 25 guests.

A little more About Your Utah Elopement Photographer

I would describe myself as an outgoing, energetic, Christ-follower, who LOVES puppies. I currently study Public Health which has brought me out to gorgeous Utah. Traveling with my husband is my favorite ever. (: I have always been an extremely creative person, even though it seems totally opposite to my passion for Public Health! I fell in love with photography whilst working for a different wedding film and photo company in 2016. I also worked in the industry as a makeup artist but I just can't seem to stay away from my camera! Now I am blessed to capture love stories as an elopement photographer and I love my job!

I decided to start a business in December of 2021, when I was in the depths of planning my own weddings. I have such a blast with my clients and grow so close with them as they plan their weddings. It is such a blessing to be in this extremely exciting stage of life. Other than my couples of course, my favorite thing ever is to watch my couples families and lives grow!!

Why Elopement Photography?

Finding a wedding photographer who you LOVE (not just their work but also how they show up for their couples) is so important. This is the person who you are trusting and allowing to capture vulnerable and your most important life moments. I am blessed to be able to spend your special day serving you and having fun alongside you!

I became an elopement photographer because I love people. I love helping tell their love stories through both creative & candid photos. It is so important to me to connect with each of you (my couples) wayyyy before their wedding day and to give you all the tools you might need to know how to enjoy your wedding and soak up the fun with your partner.

If you want an Elopement photographer who:

  • shares in your excitement
  • produces high quality images that you can share for a lifetime
  • helps you research vendors & obsesses about your wedding with you
  • gets down on the dance floor with you
  • captures raw and candid emotions
